One of the greatest joys of writing Football’s Black Pioneers was that it gave us an excuse to watch old You Tube videos of Laurie Cunningham in his prime. In truth, no excuse should ever be needed. As his manager at the time said, ‘if he ran on snow he would leave no footprints.’
Dave Bowler, co-author of Samba in the Smethwick End (a great book if you can get hold of a copy) has produced a tribute to Laurie to coincide with what would have been his 70th birthday on 8th March. It gives us great pleasure to share it with you:
